Location:
Chapleau is located in central North-Eastern Ontario, in the heart of the Canadian Shield. Chapleau is geographically isolated; the nearest cities are Sault Ste marie, Timmins and Sudbury,  but all are more than a 2 hour drive away.  Provincial Highway 129 links the town with Highway 101, running east to Timmins,  and west to Wawa. Hwy. 129 also runs south, connecting with the Trans Canada Highway 17 at Thessalon  227 km from Chapleau

Visitors to the area will find Chapleau is a scenic drive along Highway 101 from Wawa or highway 129 which runs 227 km north from Highway 17 at Thessalon - just east of Sault Ste Marie.  There are no scheduled flights to Chapleau with the closest commercial airport as Sault Ste Marie.

The area is also home to one of the largest animal preserves in the world.  The animals within the preserve are protected from any form of hunting, and include moose, black bear, bald eagles, loons, ducks, geese and many more.
