About Sandy Lake

 
The remote First Nations Community of of Sandy Lake is located in North Western Ontario 174 air miles north of Pickle Lake and 370 air miles north of Thunder Bay.  There is year 'round air access to Sandy Lake through scheduled and charter aircraft and seasonal access via winter roads during January - March of each year.

Sandy Lake is an isolated First Nation's community located in Northwestern Ontario about 175 air miles north of Pickle Lake and 370 air miles north of Thunder Bay.
 
Access / Airports / Transportation:
There are no roads to Sandy Lake except for a temporary winter road that is maintained 2 - 3 months of the year and used to transport bulk fuel, building supplies and other bulk goods and freight.  The primary access to Sandy Lake is via air and Wasaya Airways provides regular scheduled service to the community from Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Thunder Bay.  Private charter flights can also be arranged from Pickle Lake, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake.
 
Accommodations / Services / Attractions / Events:
There are no motels in Sandy Lake and visitors to the area are encouraged to contact the Band Office to determine if any overnight accommodations can be arranged.  There are remote outpost camps in the region that cater to fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts and you should view our fishing link above for a complete listing of outfitters who have camps in the Sandy Lake area.
