Slate
Falls
Airways
operates a
fleet of
six
aircraft:
two Cessna
206's, a
Cessna
Caravan
and Cessna
210, a
DeHavilland
Beaver and
DeHavilland
Otter,
along with
a
professional
roster of
seven
pilots.
Here at
Slate
Falls
Airways,
we have
our own
certified
maintenance
organization
to keep
our fleet
in top
shape all
year. We
operate
all year
from Sioux
Lookout;
from
Pelican
Lake in
the summer
and an ice
runway in
the
winter.
The 1,700
ft. ice
runway on
Pelican
Lake is
useable
from
December
to April.
During
freeze-up
and
break-up,
our
flights
are
operated
from the
Sioux
Lookout
airport.
Slate
Falls
Airways
started
life as
the Slate
Falls
Trading
Company in
1955.
Until the
1960's we
transported
furs and
fish from
the north
and, in
time,
began
evolving
into
tourist
flying and
air
ambulance
service
throughout
the north.
Slate
Falls has
operated
everything
from
DC-3's to
Taylorcrafts,
SeaBees to
Twin
Otters,
and Queen
Airs to
Beech
18's. What
began with
two Piper
Super Cubs
in 1955 is
now a
mainstay
in
northwestern
Ontario.
We still
operate on
charters
and do
tourist
flying,
but no
longer air
ambulance
service.
In the
1960's we
began
operating
out of
Sioux
Lookout,
Ontario
and
changed
our name
to Slate
Falls
Airways in
1969. The
company
has been
evolving
ever
since, and
we
continue
to be a
versatile
presence
in the
Northern
Ontario
aviation
industry. |
