About Wapekeka

 
Location:
Wapekeka is a remote First Nation's community located on Angling Lake just east of Big Trout Lake.  The community is 170 air miles north of Pickle Lake and 380 air miles north of Thunder Bay.
 
Access / Airports / Transportation:
There are no roads to Wapekeka except for a temporary winter road that is maintained for 2 -3 months of the year and used to transport bulk fuel and freight.  The primary access to Wapekeka is via air and Wasaya airways provides regular service to the community from Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake and Thunder Bay.  If schedules do not meet your timetable you can book private air charters from Pickle Lake which is the closest road access community.
 
Accommodations / Services / Attractions / Events:
There are no motels in Wapekeka and visitors to the area should contact the Band Office prior to traveling to determine if overnight accommodations can be arranged.  There are accommodations available in Pickle Lake should you need to fly in and out on the same day.  If you are looking to spend a few days fishing in the region surrounding Wapekeka, check out our Fishing link to determine if any outfitters have outpost camps in this region.  There is some excellent fishing for Walleyes, Northerns Lake Trout and Speckled Trout.
