Wawa, Ontario
is a community in Northern
Ontario located in the
Michipicoten Township in the
Alboma District. Wawa is 103 air
miles north of Sault Ste Marie
and 211 air miles East of
Thunder Bay. Wawa is known
for its 28-foot-tall metal
statue of a Canada Goose,
built in 1963. Wawa takes its
name from the Ojibway word for
"wild goose", wewe.
Wawa is
located on Highway 101, just a few
kilometres east of the junction with
Highway 17. Sault Ste Marie is
located approximately 220 km south.
Lake Superior Provincial Park is
located just south of Wawa..
Wawa

paddling and just plain relaxing

Lake
Superior Park to the south has some of
the best hiking trails in the Wawa
area, many of which take hikers to
Lake Superior's Shoreline. Thier
coastal trail is a popular backpacking
route, but their are many shorter day
hikes along the coastline as well.
